FIELD TRIPS

Make your next Field Trip a Jurassic Forest Field Trip! We have a variety of Educational Programs designed to meet the Alberta Curriculum targets from Pre-school to Grade 7. These interactive programs introduce pre-historic species whilst highlighting the beauty and diversity of the modern forest eco-system in a fun and engaging way. Each program lasts for 3 hours with 1 additional hour to be used for breaks. During your visit you will have access to picnic areas as well as the Active Learning Park.

Your students will learn about prehistoric and modern plants and animals whilst taking part in hands-on activities, interpretive presentations and educational games.

 

*One FREE Adult Supervisor Admission for every 10 paid students (with valid deposit). Additional Supervisors are an extra $17.00 +GST.

EDUCATIONAL CONTENT

Kindergarten - Dinosaur Discovery

Children will travel back in time on an interactive tour where they will learn about dinosaurs through movement, play and exploration.

Grade 1 - Seasonal Changes

Students will use their senses to explore Jurassic Forest and observe the effects of seasonal changes on the plants and animals of the area.

Grade 2 - Life Cycles

Students will gain an understanding of the diversity of animal life and the changes that occur during the life cycle of animals including; amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals and insects.

Grade 3 & 4 - Paleontology in Alberta

Students will discover prehistoric Alberta including the dinosaurs that once roamed the province, the geology and the global importance of fossil sites in Alberta.

Grade 5 - Wetland Ecosystems

Students will observe the diversity and complexity of a wetland ecosystem and discuss the importance of wetland areas to both modern and prehistoric organisms.

Grade 6 - Trees & Forests

Students will explore a forest ecosystem, learning about the diversity of trees and plants in the area. They will also learn the importance of forests to the many organisms that make a forest their home.

Grade 7 - Fossil Formation & Paleontology

Students will discuss the conditions required for the formation of fossils, different types of fossils and their importance for our understanding of ancient life on Earth.

DON'T FORGET...

When visiting Jurassic Forest, we recommend that students come prepared with a water bottle, insect repellent, sunscreen, a hat, and a jacket. Outdoor programming takes place regardless of weather, so please ensure all students are dressed appropriately for the day! Your group is welcome to stay at the park following the completion of the guided program.

For your trip to Jurassic Forest please ensure to bring a sufficient number of adult supervisors for your class. Interpretive Guides are responsible for delivering program content, not for supervising students. Classes must continue to be supervised during any break times, and any students visiting the Gift Shop must be accompanied by an adult supervisor.

We welcome special needs/special educational groups, and are fully wheelchair accessible, with wooden walkways and appropriate washroom facilities. Please let us know if you require any assistance bringing your group off the bus and we will be happy to make these arrangements. School bus parking is available on site. Arrangements can be made for storage of student belongings during the program however we suggest that no valuable items be left unattended. Jurassic Forest is not responsible for any loss of or damage to personal items.
