JOB DESCRIPTION: GENERAL MANAGER
The Jurassic Forest & Learning Centre is an outdoor active learning park located just minutes north of Edmonton, Alberta. Opened in July 2010 Jurassic Forest is Canada’s largest animatronic dinosaur park, with 2 kilometers of trails set on 40 acres of old growth forest. Jurassic Forest offers a wide variety of educational programs and special events seasonally from April to October, inviting guests to learn about and interact with Alberta’s plants and animals of the past and present.

The General Manager is the leader of and key element to the Jurassic Forest staff. This fast-paced and highly multi-faceted role requires a motivated individual who is not only detail-oriented but able to understand the big picture and prioritize long-term growth. The successful candidate must be able to supervise and ensure quality of multiple operational aspects of Jurassic Forest. This is a diverse and hands-on position requiring a basic knowledge of and passion for biological and earth sciences, a varied skill set, and a commitment to excellence.
General Manager Job Summary:
The General Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Jurassic Forest from daily operations to sales, marketing, merchandising, planning, long-term growth, hiring, and managing staff teams.

General Manager Key Responsibilities:

Ensure safe, appropriate, and profitable operation of a large outdoor attraction.

Oversee daily operations of including admissions, events, retail sales, food and beverage sales, staff supervision, and direction of park maintenance.

Hire and train seasonal staff, prioritize continued learning and employee development.

Develop marketing plans, seek out new event and business partners and build on current relationships.

Analyze sales trends to build merchandise budgets and order products, manage inventory and track sales.

Set up and maintain basic POS software. Update and maintain website and social media pages.

Analyze numbers, write reports, organize meetings, liaise with owners and shareholders.

Formulate long-terms goals and execute pipeline planning.
The Successful Candidate Must Have:

A University degree or equivalent.

A minimum of 5 years senior management and staff supervision experience, preferably at a public attraction.

A passion for dinosaurs, nature, and STEM, and a knack for educating and inspiring others.

Superior communication, time management, and organizational skills.

Experience working with large budgets as well as merchandise and supply ordering.

An innate customer focus and a desire to elevate the guest experience.

A working knowledge of computers and basic POS software.

A positive attitude and ability to leverage creative solutions to get the job done.

The flexibility to work varying hours, days, and shifts according to the time of year and event schedule.
