JOB DESCRIPTION: ASSISTANT MANAGER

The Jurassic Forest & Learning Centre is an outdoor active learning park located just minutes north of Edmonton, Alberta. Opened in July 2010 Jurassic Forest is Canada’s largest animatronic dinosaur park, with 2 kilometers of trails set on 40 acres of old growth forest. Jurassic Forest offers a wide variety of educational programs and special events seasonally from April to October, inviting guests to learn about and interact with Alberta’s plants and animals of the past and present.

The Assistant Manager is an integral element of the Jurassic Forest staff. A successful candidate must be able to supervise and ensure quality of multiple operational aspects of Jurassic Forest. This is a diverse and hands-on position requiring a basic knowledge of and passion for biological and earth sciences, a varied skill set, and a commitment to excellence.

Assistant Manager Job Responsibilities:

  • Report to and take direction from the General Manager.

  • Execute daily opening and closing procedures for the facilities and trails, including secondary operations.

  • Assist in staff orientation and training, prioritize continued learning and staff development.

  • Meet and greet guests upon arrival, answer questions and enhance their experience throughout the visit.

  • Anticipate needs of guests, and proactively address areas of concern.

  • Conduct regular inspections of the facility and trails throughout the day to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality operations.

  • Ensure daily maintenance tasks are completed promptly and according to standard.

  • Confirm staff are checked and prepared for their shift, and that staff schedules are being adhered to.

  • Assist with inventory and sales tracking, and some supply ordering.

 

The Successful Candidate Must Have:

  • Previous supervisory or managerial experience.

  • An innate customer focus and a desire to elevate the guest experience.

  • A working knowledge of computers, the Microsoft Office suite, and basic POS software.

  • General knowledge of biological and earth sciences.

  • General knowledge of dinosaurs and prehistoric life.

  • A positive attitude and ability to leverage creative solutions to get the job done.

  • The flexibility to work varying hours, days, and shifts according to the time of year and event schedule.

 

Position Details:

  • Full time position with morning, evening, and weekend availability required.

  • Access to reliable transportation is necessary due to the facility being located outside of city limits.

  • Wage range: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
